Village Yard Waste Pickup

On Fridays during the spring the Village will pick up your grass clippings and yard waste IF they are bagged in brown paper bags. We cannot accept yard waste in plastic bags. The brown bags are available free of charge from the DPW garage. This waste is brought to the County's composting facility for FREE disposal UNLESS the bags contain additional materials. So, please do not put ANYTHING but organic waste in the brown bags. Thank you for your cooperation.

JULY 29 BOIL WATER ALERT

United Water issued a boil water advisory for 30 homes in West Haverstraw: 4 Cosgrove Ave.; 2 North Street; 36 and 38 Railroad Avenue; and the following addresses on Demarest Avenue: 7, 8, 9, 10, 16, 25, 27, 28, 31, 32, 34, 35, 37, 38, 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48, 49, 51, 52, 53, 55, 57 and 59. The advisory is precautionary, following a water main repair that occurred on Tuesday in the area. Other sections of the Village are not impacted because of the location of the repair. Some discoloration is normal due to flushing of the pipes. However, if you have additional questions or concerns, please contact United Water at 877-426-8969 or www.unitedwater.com and enter your zip code to be directed to the United Water NY customer service site. The Village has also requested that a reverse 911 call be made by United Water to all of our residents to advise them of updates.

FIT TRAIL DEDICATION

On Thursday, June 24th, Mayor Ramundo was joined by Melanie Shefchik from the Rockland County Department of Health and Village employees and elected officials for the dedication of the new 10-station Fit Trail at Peck's Pond Park. Funding for the Fit Trail was provided by a grant from the County's Worksite Wellness Program, so Mayor Ramundo encouraged the staff to get out and use the Trail during lunch hours and after work.

RAILROAD AVENUE SIDEWALK UPDATE
The sidewalk and curb replacements on the north side of E. Railroad Avenue are complete. The project is Phase II of replacements funded by federal Community Development grants. The $100,000 translates into approximately 700 linear feet of sidewalk. The sections to be replaced were selected by the DPW based on their condition. Phase I of the project was completed in 2008. Phase III is currently underway. The Village was fortunate to secure this funding based on the commercial nature of Railroad Avenue. Grant funding requests for other areas of the Village have been denied; however, the Village continues to pursue additional sources. Please remember, though, that the maintenance of sidewalks located on private property are the homeowner's responsibility. They should be kept in a safe and unobstructed condition at all times.

As part of the Village's "Go Green, West Haverstraw, and Save Green" initiative, waste receptacles for Bottles and Cans were recently installed at Peck's Pond Park. The Village goal is to increase the percentage of recyclable waste to 35% of our annual total, saving approximately $185,000!
