GAS MAIN REPLACEMENT ON ROWAN DRIVEThe Village received notification from O&R that they will be replacing a section of gas main on Rowan Drive, beginning on January 30. The subcontractor for this project is Environmental Construction, located in Stony Point. If you have questions about the project, please contact O&R at 1-877-434-4100. RELIEF FUND FOR EXPLOSION VICTIMSThe gas leak and subsequent explosion in the Fairgrounds II complex completely destroyed one Village home and left a second home condemned because of the structural damage. Other homes were also damaged in the complex. Additionally, two Village volunteer firefighters and two Orange & Rockland workers were injured. The Village of West Haverstraw and Town of Haverstraw have established the FAIRGROUNDS II DISASTER FUND to aid the victims. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated to help our friends and neighbors overcome this tragedy. Please make checks payable to "FAIRGROUNDS II DISASTER FUND" and mail to Haverstraw Town Hall, Rosman Road, Garnerville, NY 10923. At this time, the fund does not have 501(c) 3 status. ROAD CLOSINGChurch Street will be closed to all but local traffic for the upcoming week because of road repairs. FREE HOMEOWNER ASSISTANCE FROM MI-BOXThe MI-Box Storage facility, located off of Railroad Avenue on Carol Avenue has graciously donated storage facilities to homeowners displaced by the explosion on Monday. Please contact them at 845-548-7761. Additionally, they will locate a storage container in the parking lot of West Haverstraw Village Hall where you can place donated items. Specifically, we know that one displaced family has two boys, ages 12 and 6. Youth large and small shirts, pants in sizes 12 and 7 and shoes sizes 4 1/2 and 12 would be greatly appreciated. Farley Middle School (845-942-3200) and the Red Cross are accepting monetary donations. The Village Board adopted an operating budget for 2011-2012 at last night's meeting. The Village homestead rate will be $3.95 per $1,000 of taxable valuation. The non-homestead rate is $7.81.
