Bulk Trash Collection

Sometimes residents need to dispose of items that are just too large for the regular garbage pickup. The Department of Public Works (DPW) collects large, bulky items from households that receive garbage collection service - these households include single-family homes and buildings with three (or fewer) apartments. DPW does not collect bulk trash from commercial establishments, including multi-unit apartment buildings (more than three units).

Bulk items, such as sofas, refrigerators, hot water heaters, mattresses and box springs, etc., are picked up at the same place you set out your regular trash. Please be sure and separate metal items, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, from all other bulk items. A weekly limit per household of six (6) cubic yards (approximately the size of a couch) will be strictly enforced.

Bulk collection is done every Thursday. If a Holiday falls within the week prior to bulk collection, collection will be done the following day. Bulk items are to be put out no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the day prior to collection and no later than 7:00 a.m. the day of collection.

The DPW uses different trucks to pick up different items. For example, we use one truck to pick up metals and two for all other bulk items. If a truck should pass by your pick up, don’t get discouraged, it may be because it was not the truck for your type of pick up.
