Village Treasurer
The Village Treasurer administers the financial responsibilities for West Haverstraw, including budget preparation and monitoring, procurement, voucher payments, fiscal reporting, and grants. The Treasurer also serves as Tax Collector.
Village tax bills for 2009-2010 were recently mailed. Payments are accepted by mail or in person at Village Hall during office hours. Several homeowners have asked why the assessment on their Village bill is higher than the amount they just received on letters from the Town. As a cost savings measure, the Village abolished its status as an assessing unit in 2002 and uses the Town's assessments to prepare the Village tax bills. However, because our fiscal years are different (The Town year is January - December; the Village's is June - May), the Village bills are prepared using the prior year's Town assessment roll. The new, reduced Town assessments will appear on future Village tax bills.
